First, Mimi's Cafe is part of a restaurant chain, but I had no idea until I visited the website. http://www.mimiscafe.com They're in California, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas. By golly, you would never know it. When my Reviews site is up, I plan to count off slightly for a restaurant being part of a chain because I feel personal innovation and caring gets lost in the corporate shuffle. Mimi's Cafe is hereby exempt from that penalty. To save time and trouble, I'm going to copy and paste from their online menu, so that's why somethings are IN ALL CAPS.

Second, I hate to keep using superlatives in almost all of my reviews lately, but damn, it really was the best breakfast I have ever had. Las Vegas really does have some awesome food available. The Quality vs. Price ratio is so askew at Mimi's Cafe, it's almost funny. Here's what you need to do if you've never visited. Preplan your dinner or breakfast using their price-less online menu, order that when you arrive, then guess how much all that scrumptious food cost. Write your answer down and give the difference to the server. He or she will need a heckuva good tip for picking your jaw up off the floor. I will only tell you the price of one item below.

Now, divide the total cost by two since we had enough leftover for breakfast the next morning and you'll wonder why a "kitchen stove" was so darned important when you bought your house. After the muffins, the fresh squeezed orange juice, and the item listed below, who's got room for the entrees, anyway?

Third, MIMI'S PAIN PERDU (petite round French toast, stuffed with cream cheese and marmalade) might just be the most incredible breakfast item ever created.

Anywhere.

Period.

Ours wasn't round, but I guess that means more for us, huh? The French Toast is made with vanilla and orange in addition to the regular French Toast Stuff. Call Roget's because you'll run out of words to describe it. Delectable, delightful, sinful. All of this can be yours for a measley buck seventy-five.

Our breakfast consisted of a buttermilk spice muffin, a low fat (they HAVE to be lying about this) blueberry muffin, fresh squeezed orange juice, Mimi's Pain Perdu, my wife's IOLA'S TASSO LASSO (3 egg omelette with diced ham, sausage, bacon, roast pork, and spicy Cajun sausage, with diced fresh tomato and cheddar cheese; served with a muffin and redskin potatoes), and my delicately flavored "5 ALARM" SANTA FE OMELETTE (Hot and spicy! 3 egg omelette with diced jalapeņos, cilantro, tomato, onion, tortilla bits, jack cheese, and spicy chipotle chile sauce. Served with redskin potatoes and a muffin).

To make a long story short, everything was even better than it sounds. That would explain the packed dining area. Mimi's attention to detail is evident in the entire operation. Red potatoes instead of the cheaper ones. Fresh squeezed juice and lemonade.

The only Las Vegas location is at Fort Apache and Charleston, so stop by on your way back from Red Rock. If you can't choose from the menu, just close your eyes and point with your finger. You'll hit something good.

Oh yeah, we also had dinner there once, but I don't have that kind of time. :-)
